Katie Morag
Our Katie Morag topic went very well and primary 1 worked so hard.
We practised our technology skills.
We had to be very careful when we were using the saws.
We put the wood into the vice and tightened it to hold it still.
It was a little bit tricky to saw through the wood but we persevered.
We designed a sail for our model and then our boats were complete.
We used clay to make model lighthouses.
We also completed some factual writing about lighthouses.
We painted the view that Katie Morag could see from her window.
They look super displayed on our class window!
We had lots of opportunities to work on our writing this term. Mrs Ayres has been very pleased to see us working so hard on this.
Our topic homework challenge produced some amazing results from models to posters. Just look at these pictures of the models.......
...and the posters.
Very artistic indeed.
Katie Morag and her family feature in lots of stories and we very much enjoyed reading them.
We also learned about the island of Struay where Katie Morag lives. It is based on a real Scottish island.
Our annotated maps show some of the features we heard about.
We worked cooperatively in our groups to make information posters about the farm animals and sea birds that we were learning about.
Our topic was lots of fun, but the highlight was of course our open evening. Our families visited and were entertained in the hall with our Scottish songs and ceilidh dancing before moving along to our classroom and breakout space to complete activities and view our work for themselves. We had a wonderful evening and would like to thank everyone for coming along and celebrating our learning with us.
